There’s just one hitch… she has to collaborate with the best (make that worst) man from her own failed nuptials.

Marketing expert Max Hartley is determined to make his mark with a coveted hotel client looking to expand its brand. Then he learns he’ll be working with his brother’s whip-smart, stunning—absolutely off-limits—ex-fiancée. And she loathes him.

If they can nail their presentation without killing each other, they’ll both come out ahead. Except Max has been public enemy number one ever since he encouraged his brother to jilt the bride, and Lina’s ready to dish out a little payback of her own.

Soon Lina and Max discover animosity may not be the only emotion creating sparks between them. Still, this star-crossed couple can never be more than temporary playmates because Lina isn’t interested in falling in love and Max refuses to play runner-up to his brother ever again...

My Review

The Worst Best Man is a romantic comedy that features a suspenseful and sensual adversaries-to-lovers plotline. The plot centres on a groom and his best man. I came across quite a few glowing reviews of this book on Instagram, and as a result, I've decided to make it my next reading assignment. Another aspect that instantaneously captured and maintained my attention was the title, which gave the impression of being both ironic and humorous at the same time.

The main character of this story is a woman with Afro-Latinx heritage whose name is Carolina Santos. On the day of her wedding, the groom, Andrew, left her for another lady and went off with her best friend instead. Lina was informed of the situation by Max, who is Andrew's brother. He was the one responsible for delivering the bad news. Lina was necessary to work together with Max in order to be successful a few years later when she wanted to exhibit her capabilities as a wedding planner in order to acquire a position in a well-known restaurant chain named Cartwright eateries. Lina was aware that the same Max was the brother of her ex-fiancé, Andrew, and that he was the person responsible for influencing Andrew to change his decision on the day of their wedding. She also knew that Max was the person responsible for encouraging Lina's ex-fiancé to change his mind. Max and Lina are unable to avoid coming into contact with one another despite their best attempts due to the fact that they have been assigned to work together as a team. At first, Lina is seething with anger, and in attempt to get her own back on Max and settle the score, she pulls a number of practical jokes on him. When the story progresses, Lina finds out more information about Max, and she recognises that the assumptions she had made about him in the beginning were not accurate. It is impossible for Line to dislike Max, despite all of his excellent qualities, because Max is a gentleman who is not only attractive but also hard-working and courteous. What will happen if Max pays Line the same amount of attention that Line currently pays to Max? What kind of a response do you think Andrew would have if he found out that Max might be interested in getting back together with his previous girlfriend?

I found several things about this book to be enjoyable, including the following: This book spoke to me on a deep and personal level on many different levels. To begin, I thought it was quite interesting how this story developed into what it did. In spite of the fact that the story's storyline had a few worn-out clichés (which I will talk about in more detail in the paragraphs that follow), the author was able to work in a few intriguing turns of events, which made the experience of reading the book more entertaining and pleasurable. One of the fascinating features that can be discovered here is the way in which elements of Brazilian culture have been incorporated. Reading novels that cover a variety of different cultures is one of my most favourite things to do. I found that the in-depth explanations of Brazilian cuisine (I googled to locate photographs of the specific dish names listed in the book), capoeira games, and other facets of Brazilian culture were really enjoyable to read. In addition to being one of my favourite sections of the play, this awkward romantic subplot with the ex-fiance's brother was also a highlight for me. Although it's probable that some of the book's readers found it repulsive or odd, I thought it added a lot of originality and imagination to the tale.

The author's ability to portray the story from a variety of perspectives is the second thing that I cherished about it. Having the capacity to truly connect with the characters is, in my view, one of the most significant aspects to take into consideration. It throws light on the decisions that the characters make and how they manage to endure despite the hardships that are presented to them as a result of those choices. In addition to that, I truly enjoy the clever banter that Max and Lina engage in with one another. Lina is an assured, well-organized, and powerful lady, whereas Max is the type of guy who can make a girl feel safe and protected when she is with him. Max is a kind, kind, and the type of guy who can make a girl feel safe and protected when she is with him. Natalia, who is Lina's spunky and somewhat threatening cousin, is a character who I found to be really interesting as well.

Things that I did not find to be particularly enjoyable: There are some facets of it that I did not enjoy as much as I did others, and those are the ones. One of these things is the fact that Lina works in the field of event coordination as a professional. Don't get me wrong! She is a wonderful wedding coordinator and very organised. But, c'mon, the principal female protagonist in all other romantic comedies have the same line of work. After doing so much research on wedding planners, I came to the conclusion that reading the same information over and over again was quite tedious. An additional problem is that, once again, a female character had to erect a barrier around her heart in order to protect it, and she pretended to be tough and unreachable, even though in truth, she possessed a gentle and sensitive centre. I mean, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this item, but it seems like every love story has the same heroine who appears to be tough on the surface but actually has a soft spot in her heart.

In general, I'd say that this book is really hilarious and delicious, and that it will make you laugh on many occasions thanks to the book's cast of really intriguing people. In addition, I'd say that this book will make you laugh out loud many times. I would recommend it to each and every one of you!

My Favorite Quote:

“There’s room for different kinds of greatness. Even if you cry doing it. Hell, especially if you cry doing it.”

“Some people eat cake. Others eat their words.”

“I can’t fault people for not seeing what I don’t show them.”
