Book Review: Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson

Book: Truly Devious (Book 1 of Truly Devious series) Author: Maureen Johnson Genre: Mystery Ranking: 5 stars

This is my first book of Maureen Johnson. I randomly selected this book but now I wonder why I did not read it earlier because it was totally worth it. But yes, mystery series are really stressful as they end with a really strong cliffhangers and I’m too bad at waiting for other books to publish. Well, I really liked the old mysterious history of Ellingham Academy and how the plot developed. At first, the storyline gave me Harry Potter vibes but as the story progressed I realized it was totally different from HP. Stevie Bell is fond of detective books, shows and everything that involves detectives. She is always very different from her friends and so a disappointment to her parents because they wanted her to live a normal teenage life like hanging out with friends but all she wanted to do was to solve mysteries and be a detective one day. She applied to Ellingham Academy not only because it is different from other schools but also because she wanted to solve an old kidnapping and murder case which involved the wife and daughter of Albert Ellingham. The wife and only daughter of Albert Ellingham were kidnapped ninety years ago. Kidnappers killed his wife and his daughter was never found dead or alive. The only clue of this case was a letter written by someone who named himself ‘Truly Devious’. Stevie was obsessed with this old Ellingham case and wanted to solve it. But as soon as she arrived at school, there was another murder of a famous boy. Was she successful in solving the famous murder case of Ellinghams? Who was this boy found dead? Can Stevie solve her friend’s murder case too? Well, you should really read this book to get the answers of these questions and also book 2 of this series.
