“Just say Okay”

I’d say that October is turning out to be a lucky month for me in terms of the books that I have managed to get through so far. All of them received 5 stars for their mind-blowing stories, including The Friend Zone I just finished last night. This is one of those books that you can’t put down even when you have deadlines for your projects, meetings to attend or seminars to go to. A book that keeps you miles away from monotonous routine and stressful real life and takes you to a tearful yet dreamy and beautiful world. A book that leaves you teary and giddy at the same time, that will keep you awake late at night because your heart is kind of entangled with it. This book will take you on an amazing journey where you fall in love with everything, main characters, side characters, story, plot and what not.

The Friend Zone is a funny, entertaining and equally heartbreaking story. Kristen Peterson is not a stereotypically sweet girl; she is a bomb. She is a girl who is never going to take anybody’s shit. Raised by a monster of a mother, she grew up to be rebellious, tough and headstrong girl. She runs her own small business of doglet items. She only has one small problem that she is suffering from uterine problems causing severe chronic pains which not only affected her routine but also her love life. She met her soul mate Josh but due to her health problems she had to drag him to friend zone rather than be in a relationship.

I love the chemistry between Kristen and Josh! They were both instantly attracted to each other the moment they met, but both are too stubborn to admit. Kristen’s sarcasm and Josh’s swoony lines are completely funny and lovable. Despite of all their efforts to stay away from each other, they find ways to spend as much together as they can. It is like destiny itself finds ways for them to be with each other. They totally match each other in their liking, disliking, eating habits, moods; how to handle the other, everything reflects that they are made for each other. BUT, they can’t be together.

The story is evocative, heartwarming and undeniably enjoyable. It also touches some sensitive issues of feminine problems of infertility which may be disturbing for certain readers. I liked the writing style of Abby Jimenez. In some places, I became so immersed in her writing that it was so easy to get attached with characters, to understand them, and to empathize with their loss. I found Kristen one of very few main leads who are not annoying. I loved the way Josh supports her in her problems and never leaves her side. I devoured it! Highly recommended to those readers who want to read a book they find hard to put down.
